LISTEN: Walker Hayes hires Kesha for ‘Fancy Like’ remix

Monument Records singer-songwriter Walker Hayes released a remix of their single “Fancy Like”.

Released earlier this month, Hayes enlisted the GRAMMY-nominated singer Kesha for a remix of his viral hit. Throughout the remixed version of the popular track, the country chart topper sings in perfect harmony with the pop superstar. Along with harmonizing during the chorus and throughout the song, Kesha also added her own verse to the songs to share who she is “Fancy Like.”

“I’ve been a fan of Kesha’s originality and vocals ever since I first heard her music,” Hayes said in a press release. “When Kesha sings, you know it’s Kesha. Her swag is so identifiable, and her songwriting celebrates the fun of everyday life and is so honest. It’s the perfect fit for a track about that.

“From the first time I heard ‘Fancy Like,’ Walker spoke straight to my heart,” Kesha added. “I’ve always been more comfortable in a honky-tonk with my boots on than on a red carpet in heels. This song took me back to my roots. Working with him on the lyrics was so much fun – shouting and celebrating the most magical things that are usually cheap, dirty or free. This song reminds me of all those cheap deep south thrills that made me the wild woman that I am.

“Fancy Like” is a viral hit co-written by Hayes alongside Cameron Bartolini, Josh Jenkins and Shane Stevens that appears on Hayes’ latest project, Country stuff. The EP features collaborations with Jake Owen, Carly Pearce and Lori McKenna and displays the full range of Hayes’ creativity.

Upon its release, “Fancy Like” quickly climbed the charts, reaching No. 11 on the US Billboard Hot 100 and No. 1 on the Hot Country Songs chart, marking her highest charting single to date.

For Hayes, the numbers were mind-boggling, but that was just the beginning. The song rose to one of the rankings on several charts and crushed its previous streaming records.

“It’s really what you dream of as an artist,” Hayes said in a recent interview with country now. “The beauty of being a creative person is that you literally wake up every day and say to yourself, ‘Maybe it’s the day.’ It turns out that was it.

The song gained such popularity that it was even advertised and brought back the Oreo Milkshake at Applebees!
