How to Beat Starscourge Radahn in Elden Ring

Starscourge Radahn is one of the toughest, yet funniest bosses you’ll face in Elden Ring. Here’s how to beat Radahn and take his Elden Ring shard.

We’ve all dreaded facing Starscourge Radahn ever since we first saw him in the Elden Ring trailer. This huge brute is one of the biggest challenges the game throws at you. Unfortunately, there’s no easy way to defeat Radahn, but there are ways to make your life easier.

word of warning, this guide will contain spoilers for the boss fight and the general story of Elden Ring, simply because of the characters that appear.

Elden Ring does a great job of building up Radahn’s boss fight before you get to his location. You’ll hear about her “festival” from several NPCs before you get there, but once you do, it’ll be different than you imagined. Radahn is there, but he’s far from in control. However, you will still need to beat him to get his shard back, here’s how to do it.

Where to find Radahn in Elden Ring

Radahn can be found at Redmane Castle southeast of Caelid. Technically it’s a legacy dungeon, but it’s not a traditional dungeon. Although you can fight your way through Redmane Castle, you will encounter minimal resistance. This is aside from the two Lion monsters, but fighting them is completely optional.

If you want, you can take advantage of the portal outside the entrance to warp directly to where you need to go without swinging your sword once. You see, despite what you’ve heard about the dreaded General Radahn, the Starscourge went crazy a long time ago and is now primarily an attraction for adventurers.

The reason for Radahn’s sad state is a battle he had centuries ago with another demigod. You can learn what happened to him in-game, or you can watch the Elden Ring trailer to get a good idea.

In the courtyard of Redmane Castle, you’ll find an assortment of friendly NPCs, many of whom you’ll have met before or are likely to meet at some point on your journey. They are all here to take part in a festival, which pits a collection of warriors against Radahn in a blood sport. The winner can claim their fragment of the Elden Ring.

To trigger the boss fight, tell the host on the ramparts when you’re ready and he’ll open the door to the castle chapel for you. From there, head to the beach where you’ll find a portal that transports you to the vast boss arena. Be ready.

NPC support

Radahn’s boss fight in Elden Ring is unique to the game, there’s nothing like it in previous Souls titles. In this fight, you can not only summon support NPCs, but also multiple NPCs at once, continuously throughout the battle.

If an NPC falls on Radahn, his summon sign will reappear, allowing you to bring him back. Although these NPCs can damage Radahn, they are unlikely to kill him. Especially once the second phase of the fight begins.

However, they can get lucky if you can summon enough of them at once throughout the battle. This is difficult to achieve, however, as Radahn will quickly whittle them down and shift his attention back to you.

NPCs include Alexander the Pot Warrior, Blaidd the Half Wolf, Patches, Tregoth and many more. If you haven’t rescued Alexander or encountered Blaidd in the ruins of Mistwood yet, now might be the time to do so.

You can meet Blaidd in person using the finger click gesture in the ruins, he will then prompt you to kill the first prison boss together. Alexander can be found stuck in a ditch north of Stormhill. He needs you to hit him several times to free him, then he will invite you to the festival.

Be aware that Patches will enter the boss arena when you summon him, but he will return to his own world in fear once he sees how monstrous Radahn is. Be honest though, what else did we expect from this loose universe?

It is also advised to defeat Radahn before tracking down and defeating fellow demigod Rykard at Volcano Manor. Indeed, Tregoth is one of the mansion’s assassination targets, and killing him will mean that he cannot participate in the battle against Radahn’s boss.

Killing Tregoth is optional. It is possible to locate and defeat Rykard without killing him. However, completing the mansion’s target list unlocks some nice rewards, including various armor sets. Remember, Tregoth is a powerful NPC who can resist Radahn better than most.

How to defeat Radahn in Elden Ring

As the battle begins, Radahn will start shooting arrows at you from afar. Therefore, avoid them and rush to summon your first group of NPC allies. Once they close in on Radahn, he’ll turn his attention to them, so quickly summon the others and join the fray before he kills them all.

One strategy for killing Radahn in Elden Ring is to summon a multiplayer support of other players, then summon as many NPCs as possible. You can then take down the Starscurge on foot with a crew. However, you cannot use Spirit Summons in this fight, so keep that in mind.

Summoning help from other players can be invaluable in this tough battle – but beware, this will mean you’ll lose access to Torrent in this fight, which is perhaps even more useful.

Without Torrent, Radahn can easily overtake you and end your existence with a few powerful swipes. Torrent allows you to quickly traverse the battlefield and resurrect fallen NPCs once their summon signs return.

It’s incredibly difficult on foot and you’re unlikely to reach much. Therefore, make sure your initial team of players and NPCs have what it takes to defeat Radahn. Like once the dominoes start falling, the rest will surely follow.

Remote strategy

Spellcasters and archers will find Radahn easier than tank builds. They can move around the battlefield summoning allies to life while shooting Radahn himself. It is essential to bring it down. We advise you to consider your NPC allies only as distractions. As for Radahn to fall, you’ll need to be the one to deal the most damage to him.

Keep your distance, keep summoning and keep shooting at him. The general will soon fall into this strategy. Arrows and spells that inflict poison will be very useful, this way Radahn’s health will crumble as he struggles across the battlefield and away from you.

Melee strategy

Getting close to Radahn is dangerous, but it can be done. If you fight him without multiplayer support, then Torrent will be essential to your survival, as will your NPC allies.

Move around the battlefield summoning them as often as you can, but try not to neglect the battle itself. Your allies will comfortably return Radahn to half health, but once Radahn starts summoning meteors in Phase 2, they (and you) can be easily downed.

Therefore, to try and keep your team alive, be sure to hit Radahn yourself. He will often turn his attention to you if you are nearby or cross the battlefield to reach you.

Use as many buffs as possible to improve your mounted stability and overall defense. It’s also worth trying to poison Radahn with items if possible.

He’ll charge you with a few attacks, meaning you can surround him and hit from behind or under a few times. If he summons his purple skulls, stay away until this threat has passed. This move can instantly kill even the most leveled player.

This is how you eliminate Radahn in Elden Ring. Be sure to check out our Elden Ring page for all the latest news and guides.
