How to Beat Margit the Fell Omen in Elden Ring
Margit the Fell Omen is one of the first bosses players will face in Elden ring, so be sure to use these strategies to defeat this colossal giant.
Elden Ring is home to many difficult bosses and although Margit the Fell Omen is one of the first, she is still capable of killing even the most skilled players if they are not careful. This mighty man wields a gigantic wooden staff and can summon a lightning sword and hammer, which can quickly decimate those who dare stand in the way.
Ternish wishing to access Stormveil Castle and progress in the game’s story will have to defeat Margit. However, this can be especially tricky if you don’t know the best strategies to beat him. Luckily, our Margit boss guide has some tips and tricks you can use to take down the Fell Omen for good.
Margit location at Elden Ring
Margit the Fell Omen is incredibly easy to find in Elden Ring. The boss battle with Margit takes place on the narrow causeway leading to the gate of Stormveil Castle. You will need to defeat this colossal giant if you want to move on to the next location and continue your adventure.
How to Beat Margit in Elden Ring
In order to beat Margit in Elden Ring, you must first make sure to lure her away from the sides of the arena and into the center of the causeway. This will greatly reduce the chances of him knocking you out of the arena, while still giving you plenty of room to dodge his 360 degree swings and sweeping attacks.
Instead of rushing towards Margit and launching into close range blows, just keep your distance and wait for him to use one of his slower attacks. For example, his air slam is extremely actionable and well telegraphed.
Patiently wait for Margit to finish charging and as soon as he slams the stick into the ground, dash in for a few quick hits, then back up to a safe distance. Despite her imposing size, Margit is quite agile and often leaps backwards to avoid attacks.
This can prove especially frustrating for players using the slower weapons in Elden Ring. However, you can counter Margit’s mobility by bringing bone darts and throwing daggers into battle. Whenever the giant leaps back, launch your projectiles to force it back into close quarters scenarios.
Not only will this allow you to sustain your attack, but it will also prevent it from recovering any super armor. During his second phase, Margit will summon a colossal hammer, with which he will leap into the air and slam into the ground.
Once he leaps into the air, we recommend sprinting to the other end of the causeway to avoid the attack. Upon landing, Margit will be stationary for a few seconds, so build in a few hits before rolling back.
Summoning Spirit Ash companions during this phase will also distract him, giving you more opportunities to quickly run through his remaining health bar.
Margit’s Shackle Elden Ring location
For those still having trouble defeating Margit, there is a purchasable item that makes the first phase of the fight incredibly easy. After completing the encounter in Murkwater Cave, players will be able to purchase Margit’s Shackle. This merchant is located halfway up the river north of Lake Agheel.
Once you get Margit’s Shackle, equip it from your quick items menu and use it to trap Margit in a pool of golden energy. Margit’s Shackle can be used twice per battle in the first phase of the fight, giving you a few precious seconds to lower her health bar.
Summon the wizard Rogier to help you
Of course, if you want to call for cheerful cooperation, you can use the summoning sign of the wizard Rogier. This friendly mage can be summoned directly outside of Margit’s arena, so be sure to interact with him before entering the boss fight.
Sorcerer Rogier is a friendly mage who will use his magical skills to bombard the giant with ranged spells, giving you even more DPS. Rogier will also serve as a great distraction, allowing you to heal with your Vial of Crimson Tears when Margit takes her attention away from you.
Second meeting with Margit
For those of you who are here to beat Margit for the first time, or those who just beat him at the entrance to Stormveil Castle, come back when you gain access to the Altus plateau. Spoilers lurk ahead, so be warned, tarnished, and curb your flame of ambition until then.
For those who have arrived on the Plateau, an old enemy awaits you as a field boss on the battlefield as you make your way to the capital. The second encounter with Margit can easily be missed, but why wouldn’t you want a throwback to this huge monster? Here’s how to find it.
Following the main path through the battlefield, head towards the gates of the capital. You will soon see a lone noble wizard standing aimlessly among the rubble. As you approach him, Margit will materialize and taunt you, starting a second battle with him without much warning.
You can just run away if you want, this fight is entirely optional, but you didn’t buy Elden Ring to run away from bosses, did you? This time Margit doesn’t have a health bar at the bottom of the screen like in the first fight. Instead, he will simply function as an elite enemy rather than a traditional field boss.
It’s been leveled several times since your last battle, but so have you. The good news is that he hasn’t learned any new tricks and will fight the same as he did in Castle Stormveil. However, you’ve probably learned a lot since you first met, so use every tool in your arsenal against him. Remember though that you cannot use Spirit Summons there.
Unlike Margit’s first boss, this time you can fight her on horseback, which makes the battle so much easier. Don’t underestimate him, but by using Torrent to bypass Margit, you can attack him at your own pace and easily escape his powerful moves. He’ll respawn his hammer once he reaches half health, but keep moving and hitting him when he’s vulnerable for a much-deserved measure of revenge.
Margit will teleport once you defeat her, and will be waiting for you in the heart of the capital in another major boss fight.
