Presentation

Hinduism, Islam and Christianity

There are different religions, like: Hinduism, Islam, Christianity, Buddhism, Judaism, and so on. However, my modest experience of living with people of different religions in two largest democracies of the world, bring me to say that all the religions are pretty much the same. The basic tenets of all the religions are to be nice and love everybody, and treat others like you want to be treated. All religions believe the same things, such as: God created the world, He is watching over everybody, and will be just. In my presentation, I will take a close look at three religions- Hinduism, Islam and Christianity. Christianity is the largest religion in the world.

Christianity was created by Jesus. Jesus was born in Bethlehem, and went to Israel, Judah and Galilee to preach about his father, God. The Christians’ holy book is the Bible. Some of Christianity’s messages that resonate with those of other religions are summarized here. Jesus always used to say “Love and Forgive.” There is only one god that Christians believe in and that’s God, but some people also call Jesus their God, while he was God’s messenger, or God’s son. Christians believe that there are 3 forms of God: Father, Son, and Holy Ghost. One of Jesus’ teachings was “Love your neighbor as yourself.” Jesus also used parables to convey his messages. Islam also propagated love and harmony among people.

The god of Islam is Allah. Islam’s Prophet was Mohammad. Islam is the second largest religion in the world. There are over one billion Islam followers in the world. Mohammad was born in Makkah, also known as Mecca. He later went to Medina to preach. The holy book of Islam is the Quran. The main rules of Islam are called the “Five Pillars of Faith”, they are: Shahada, which means Declaration of Faith; Salaat, which also means Prayer; Zakaat, which also means Giving Charity; Sawm, which also means Fasting; and Hajj, which also means Pilgrimage. Whether somebody will go to heaven or hell is determined on “The Day of Judgment”, as called in Islam. Hinduism also believes in heaven and hell.

Hinduism was created 3000 years ago, and is thought to have a lot of prophets, teachers, and founders like the huge number of gods. It is believed that Hinduism has 300,000,000 gods. Hinduism is the oldest religion, people believe it may also have started in the prehistoric times. The holy texts of Hinduism are the Vedas. Hinduism covers about 13% of the world’s population. It is the dominant culture in India, Nepal, and Sri Lanka. Recently it has been said that there are about 766,000 Hindus in America and 157,015 Hindus in Canada. Most of India’s religions are Henotheistic. Eventually, if you come to think of it, all of these religions are the same.

Hinduism, Islam and Christianity are like members of the same family: they have the same basic philosophy, but are different in personality and details. All three of them believe in being nice, loving, and treating others like you want to be treated. All the different religions are there for the same purpose, to make people believe that God is looking upon them and that they will receive rewards if they do good things or will suffer from bad consequences if they do bad things. To put it all together, if we look closer at all religions, all the distinctions get blurred and we all belong to one world.
